How Geo-Targeted Advertising Helped Drive Nearly 7,000 Dealer Visits for Honda

In the automotive market, getting a message in front of the right person is only half the job. The real win is turning that attention into a showroom visit. That’s exactly the challenge Honda set out to solve with the launch of its Amaze, Elevate and Fit range, and it’s a challenge we were proud to help tackle.

We helped Honda connect with high-intent car buyers across South Africa using Taptap’s location intelligence technology and got them through the dealership doors.

The Challenge

Honda, one of South Africa’s leading automotive brands, wanted to increase brand awareness and drive footfall to dealerships across its model range: the Amaze, Elevate and Fit. In a crowded automotive market, the brief was clear. Honda needed to reach high-intent consumers while driving high-quality visits to dealerships, not just clicks and impressions that go nowhere.

The Solution

By targeting specific dealerships and the areas surrounding them, the campaign was able to deliver high-impact, relevant messaging via display advertising to audiences most likely to convert.

The campaign was executed using geo-targeted placements around priority dealerships, allowing Honda to reach audiences exactly where it mattered most. This location-based approach meant precise targeting at scale, driving engagement and encouraging real-world visits to physical dealerships rather than passive impressions alone.

Ads ran across trusted, high-traffic publisher environments, including News24 and BusinessTech, placing Honda’s messaging alongside content its target audience was already reading and trusting.

The Results

The campaign delivered strong results across every stage of the funnel, from awareness through to footfall:

  • 4.78 million impressions
  • 51,000 clicks at a 1% click-through rate
  • 6,897 dealer visits at participating Honda dealership sites*

Broken down by model, the performance looked like this:

Geographic performance data showed impressions concentrated most heavily in the Western Cape and Gauteng, reflecting the priority dealership areas the campaign was built around.

Why It Worked

This campaign is a good example of what happens when digital advertising is built around a physical business outcome. Rather than optimising purely for clicks, the strategy was designed from the outset to connect online engagement to real-world dealer visits, giving Honda a clear line of sight between media spend and footfall.

For brands operating in competitive, considered-purchase categories like automotive, that connection between digital reach and physical action is often the hardest thing to prove. This campaign shows it’s achievable when the targeting, placement and measurement are aligned from the start.

Methodology & Disclaimer
Dealer visit data is based on location signals and should be interpreted as visits to the dealership site. Many Honda dealers operate within multi-franchise dealerships, so figures reflect proximity to the dealer site rather than confirmed entries into the Honda showroom. Honda’s own LMS data did not show a comparable lift in walk-ins; these numbers should be read as a directional indicator of campaign reach rather than a precise Honda-only count.
